Soul Food Stories
(Tonislav Hristov, 2013, 68 min)

Speakers: Meta Mazaj, Cinema Studies (Penn), in conversation with Zdravko Tyankov

The politically and religiously diverse Bulgarian village of Satovchka has a strong tradition of voluntary associations and clubs. Soul Food Stories focuses on one club of seven men who seem to disagree about everything, except the idea that all problems can be solved over a good meal. Their debates frequently turn to questions of traditional gender roles and questions of sexuality.

A catered closing reception will follow the film.
