Syndromes and a Century (dir. A. Weerasethakul, 2006, 105 min.)

The Penn Humanities Forum on Sex opens its film series "Cinema, Censorship, and the Scandal of Sex" with this Thai drama in two parts. Set forty years apart, the film – an autobiographical tribute to the director's parents – speaks of feelings, memory, and transformation. Weerasethakul refused to cut four scenes that Thailand’s Board of Censors demanded, instead withdrawing the film from domestic circulation.
