Reporting Atrocities with Style: Stylistic Choices in Medieval Representations of Violence

Reports of massacres, torture, elaborate executions, and other forms of severe violence vary greatly in their style. During his year at Penn, Dr. Baraz explores what affects the choice of particular styles in representations of violence. What social and political functions do these stylistic choices have, and what can those choices tell us about the attitudes to violence in the cultures they represent?
